The Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, has sentenced eight Lagos residents to one month imprisonment each over offence of indiscriminate dumping.

The court found the litigants: Suraju Mukiari, Tukur Muhammed, Seidu Umar, Ishola Jimoh, Goodluck Osigbo, Yusuf Abubakar, Mustapha Musa, and Imam Muhammed, guilty of the offence following their arraignment on charges bordering on indiscriminate waste disposal, disclosing that they contravened the environmental laws of the state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who held that the individuals pleaded guilty to the charges, said that the judgment on Monday underscores the Lagos State Government’s continued resolve to enforce environmental regulations and ensure strict compliance with sanitation standards across the state.

Wahab disclosed that the eight offenders were apprehended and swiftly prosecuted after being caught dumping refuse illegally at different locations within the Oshodi axis.

He warned that the inhabitants to desist from indulging in the prohibited as the state government would not tolerate the acts, adding that such behaviour poses serious threats to public health, environmental safety, and urban order.

According to the Commissioner, the enforcement actions are part of ongoing efforts to restore discipline in waste management practices and sustain cleanliness across Lagos.

Wahab added that the latest conviction serves as a deterrent to other residents who may disregard environmental laws, reaffirming that authorities will continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement operations across major corridors of the state
