Lagos 2027: Sanwo-Olu Backs Hamzat for Governorship Race
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially endorsed the gubernatorial aspirations of his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for the 2027 election.
The endorsement took place on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Lagos House in Marina, marking a significant milestone in Hamzat’s political journey ahead of the upcoming election.
In recent weeks, Hamzat has garnered widespread support from political and community leaders across the state, having visited various constituencies for consultations. This move has solidified his position as a strong contender for the governorship race.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s endorsement further strengthens Hamzat’s bid. Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu emphasized Hamzat’s competence, leadership qualities, and dedication to the progress of Lagos State. “Obafemi Hamzat has been an essential part of this administration, and I have no doubt that he will continue to build on the achievements we have made so far,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The endorsement is also supported by influential figures in Lagos politics. Notably, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has publicly expressed his support for Hamzat’s candidacy. In addition, several high-profile politicians, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, and former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, have endorsed Hamzat’s governorship bid.
These endorsements reflect a growing consensus among key stakeholders in the state, reinforcing Hamzat’s political stature as a candidate ready to lead Lagos into the future.
The development also highlights the seamless transition within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, as leaders rally behind Hamzat’s leadership qualities, hoping to continue the state’s progress under Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
As the 2027 election approaches, the momentum behind Hamzat’s candidacy is expected to continue building, with further endorsements likely to follow.
