Hamzat Emerges Lagos APC Flagbearer for 2027 Governorship Election
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election after defeating his challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, in the party’s primary election.
Hamzat secured an overwhelming 657,917 votes out of the 657,974 accredited votes cast during the exercise, while Jim-Kamal recorded just one vote.
The result was announced by the Chairman of the APC Governorship Electoral Committee, Gen. Jon Temlong, at the party’s secretariat in Acme, Ogba.
Party officials described the primary as peaceful, transparent and orderly.
Hamzat’s emergence followed massive endorsements from influential blocs within the Lagos APC, especially the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), which openly backed his candidacy ahead of the exercise.
The deputy governor also benefited from the withdrawal of other aspirants before the primary election.
Among those who stepped down in support of Hamzat were Babajide Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor, and Samuel Mawuyon Àjọṣe, also called SMA Gold.
Their withdrawal further strengthened support for Hamzat and paved the way for his dominant victory at the poll.
With the outcome, Hamzat is now expected to lead the ruling party into the 2027 Lagos governorship election as the APC seeks to retain power in the state.
