Area E Police in FESTAC Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government said it has begun investigation of an allegation of extortion made against one of the officers.
The allegation was made by the brother of a resident, Kelvin Agada on his Twitter handle ‘D_reg042’ which went viral and caused various reactions from bloggers across the country.
It was related that a sum of N134,000 was extorted from Agada by a police officer of the command, on his way to relay the message he was to use the money for at Mile 2.
In a reply made available to the public, the Federal Police Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said on his Twitter handle that the police have received more cases of extortion carried out by officers from its FESTAC Town Division than any area in Lagos State but which when investigated turned out to be either false or fake police.
He noted that sensitization programmes have been carried out in all areas of the State over the issue of extortion, however, a thorough investigation would be carried out on all reported cases as no stone would be left unturned.
Adejobi noted that the system of operation presently in use does not give room for any misconduct which has reshaped the ideas and thoughts of police officers.
He encouraged residents to continue to trust the efficiency of the police, saying the police will continue to stick to their credibility without giving room for vices among themselves before cautioning the masses as they are models of the community.
