Veteran entertainer and activist, Charly Boy, has urged musicians and other public figures to use their platforms to address pressing societal issues, insisting that entertainers wield more influence than many politicians and should not remain silent on national concerns.

Speaking ahead of the July 2026 release of his memoir titled 999, Charly Boy said artistes have a responsibility to reflect the realities of their environment through their music and public engagements.

According to him, creative professionals can play a major role in shaping public discourse and driving awareness on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

“They can do more. They have larger platforms than politicians. It won’t hurt them to speak up or make music that reflects reality,” he said.

The entertainer expressed concern over the state of the nation, particularly rising insecurity, warning that the situation could deteriorate further if urgent steps are not taken to address underlying challenges.

“It’s going to explode in our faces,” he warned.

Charly Boy also highlighted what he described as the erosion of family values as a major factor contributing to Nigeria’s social problems. He said economic hardship has placed pressure on households, sometimes pushing parents to encourage questionable means of survival.

He criticised traditional parenting approaches, noting that methods that worked in previous generations may no longer be effective for raising Gen Z and millennial children.

Despite his concerns, he expressed optimism about the country’s future, saying hope lies in young Nigerians who are determined to create opportunities for themselves rather than wait for them.

He also commended the emergence of a new generation of activists and social commentators who are increasingly using their voices to demand accountability and social change.

Beyond his social commentary, Charly Boy described his forthcoming memoir as a deeply personal project that reflects transformation, renewal and a new phase of his life.

He said the book would present an unfiltered account of his journey, capturing “the good, the bad and the ugly”, while noting that many people go through life without documenting their full stories.

Reflecting on his past, he admitted to being rebellious in his younger years, but maintained that he never lost focus on his personal ambitions, even during periods of conflict over his life choices.
