Commercial Driver Dies in Cele-Oshodi Crash
A commercial bus driver has lost his life following a tragic multiple-vehicle collision at Cele inward Oshodi in Lagos, prompting a swift emergency response from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The fatal accident, which occurred earlier on Wednesday, involved a commercial mini-bus popularly known as a “Korokpe” and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck bearing registration number EPE 554 YC.
According to preliminary findings by security operatives at the scene, the driver of the commercial bus sustained severe injuries from the impact of the collision and died instantly.
LASTMA officials, who were carrying out routine traffic monitoring duties within the corridor, quickly mobilised to the scene to coordinate rescue operations, secure the accident site and prevent further traffic disruptions along the busy route.
Working alongside officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Cele-Ijesha Division, the agency facilitated the recovery of the deceased driver’s body, which was later released to his family members.
To restore normal traffic movement and ensure public safety, LASTMA personnel promptly evacuated the wreckage and all vehicles involved in the crash. The vehicles were subsequently handed over to the police for a comprehensive investigation aimed at determining the circumstances and possible causes of the accident.
Despite the disruption caused by the incident, the prompt intervention of LASTMA officials helped restore the free flow of traffic along the affected corridor within a short period.
Reacting to the tragedy, the General Manager of LASTMA expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged motorists, especially commercial transport operators, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and embrace responsible driving practices.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA.
