Car Mechanic In Custody Over N2.7M Fraud

The Police in Lagos have arraigned one car mechanic, Ikechukwu Madu over a car repair scam worth N2.7 million.

40-year-old Madu, was on Tuesday arraigned at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in where the police held that he is facing a two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing which he pleaded not guilty to.

Nevertheless, Police Prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that he committed the offences on January 20 at about 8:00 p.m. in the Ajara Torikoh area of Badagry, collecting the sum from the complainant, Awegnonde Bidossessi, under the pretext of repairing his Range Rover but failed to carry out the work and diverting the money for personal use.

Ekpo stated that the offences contravene Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, after which the Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with three sureties in like sum.

Layeni also directed that one of the sureties must be a company director before adjourning the matter till May 7.
