Bugler’s Attempt to Steal Church Offering Lands Him in Police Custody

A 28-year old man, Darlington Emeka has been arrested for breaking into a church, Christ Image Assembly Church, located at Abraham Akintola Street, Onipetesi Estate in Manolo Area of Lagos with the intention of stealing the church’s properties.
Emeka is being prosecuted for breaking an entrance and attempted theft. He confessed to burgling the church, with the intention of stealing a huge sum of money; earlier dropped in the offering box during a service.
Emeka, an indigene of Ebonyi state is been charged before an Ejigbo Magistrates Court, a felony of breaking into a place of worship in the night. He admitted and pleaded guilty to the charge, adding that, his attempt failed, because he did not find the money; before he got arrested.
ECHONEWS gathered, that Emeka broke into the church, after he had monitored the church service and the substantial sum of money, realized from offerings, kept in the offering box. He reportedly went in the night, broke the church keys and went in search of the money.
He was apprehended by security men, who saw him and raised alarm. He was then beaten mercilessly and handed over to the Police of Shasha Division. The prosecutor, Mr N. Simon asked the court for short adjournment to enable him to present the fact for sentence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Akeem Fashola ordered that Emeka should be remanded in Prison custody. The case was adjourned for fact and sentencing.
