Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has raised concerns over the safety of her two children with her former husband, Mutairu Atanda Orilowo, alleging that the children are being maltreated while in his custody.
Bakare made the allegation in a video shared on her Instagram page, where she appealed to the public to help her seek custody of her children.
The actress said she had previously avoided taking her family issues to social media but decided to speak out after becoming concerned about what she described as a potentially threatening situation.
She alleged that her former husband had refused to allow their sons to stay with her and expressed concern about their welfare in his household.
According to Bakare, she was recently speaking with her children on the phone when she allegedly heard an argument involving Orilowo’s wife, some of her children and Bakare’s sons.
She claimed she heard Orilowo’s wife instructing one of the children to strangle her sons rather than beat them in places where injuries could be visible to their father.
“My worries are my kids being with another woman that is not treating them well,” Bakare said.
She further alleged that Orilowo had kept the children away from her as a way of getting back at her.
The actress also claimed that she had recorded the voice of Orilowo’s wife during an alleged incident of maltreatment and appealed for assistance in securing custody of her children.
Bakare and Orilowo got married in 2013 after her divorce from her first husband, Olumide Kunfulire, in 2012. The marriage produced two sons before the couple separated.
The allegations made by Bakare have not been independently established, and Orilowo and his wife had not, in the account provided, publicly responded to the claims.
