Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the elevation of Mr Olatunbosun Sunday Ogunbanwo and five other senior public servants to the position of Permanent Secretary in the state civil service.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, are aimed at strengthening the state’s administrative structure and reinvigorating its policy implementation machinery.
The Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, disclosed this in a circular dated October 13, 2026, with reference number CIR/HOS/’26/071.
According to Agoro, the governor approved the appointments as part of efforts to sustain the effectiveness of the state’s public service and enhance the implementation of government policies and programmes.
Ogunbanwo, popularly known as Tubo, is a seasoned professional in media relations and public communication strategy. Before his elevation, he served as Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, where he was responsible for communicating the ministry’s activities, policies and public health initiatives.
His appointment to the position of Permanent Secretary marks a new phase in his public service career, drawing on his experience in strategic communication and government information management.
The other five newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Dr Mahadiyu Olawale Adegbite, Director of Medical Services at the Health Service Commission; Mrs Folashade Aina Thomas-Orogan, Director of State Counsel at the Ministry of Justice; and Mr Mubashiru Adebayo Haroun, also Director of State Counsel at the Ministry of Justice.
Others are Mrs Margret Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose, Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and Mrs Toyin Bilquees Adekoya, Principal/Director of Education District VI.
The appointments cut across health, law, administration, education and public communication, reflecting the range of professional responsibilities required to support the state government’s operations.
As Permanent Secretaries, the appointees are expected to provide administrative leadership, ensure continuity in public service delivery and support the implementation of government policies within their respective areas of responsibility.
The Permanent Secretary cadre occupies a critical position in the state civil service, serving as the highest level of the administrative career structure and providing institutional continuity across successive political administrations.
The elevation of the six officers comes as the Lagos State Government continues to rely on its public service workforce to implement development programmes and deliver essential services to residents.
The Head of Service did not provide further details on the individual deployment arrangements of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in the circular as reproduced in the announcement.
The appointments take effect immediately.
