Nigeria goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie has warned the national team against underrating Comoros ahead of the return leg of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying tie on Tuesday, October 13 at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.

Nnadozie acknowledged the quality of the Comoros team, and that the island nation should not be underestimated based on its name or status in international football.

The Nigerian shot-stopper said the encounter demonstrated the growing competitiveness of the women’s game, where teams can no longer be judged by their names or reputation.

“First of all, Comoros, they’re not a bad side. I think you already saw how the game turned out. Football these days is no longer a place whereby you define a team by the name of the country or whatever,” Nnadozie said.

The goalkeeper urged her teammates to maintain their concentration and deliver a better performance to secure Nigeria’s progress in the Olympic qualifying campaign.

She cautioned that the next encounter would present another difficult challenge, as Comoros would be determined to respond and overturn the first leg deficit.

“So, coming to the next game, we are going to try and give our best. We are not done yet, so we’ll try everything we can to make sure we get the result going. It’s not going to be an easy one.”

Nnadozie believes that Comoros would come into the return leg with renewed determination, making it essential for the Super Falcons to remain disciplined and focused throughout the contest.

The goalkeeper insisted that Nigeria must continue working hard rather than relying on the advantage gained in the opening encounter.

“They will come back with everything to make sure they get the points, but we’ll keep our heads up and keep working hard, stay focused, and make sure we finish the job well,” she said.

The Super Falcons are seeking to secure a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and the outcome of the return fixture will be crucial to their hopes of advancing to the next stage of the qualifying series.

Nnadozie’s comments underline Nigeria’s determination to avoid an upset and ensure that their first-leg success translates into progress in the race for an Olympic ticket.
