Woman Arraigned in Ikeja Over Alleged N103.7m Fraud

A 46-year-old woman, Oluwatoyin Christiana, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court in Lagos over alleged fraud involving N103.7 million belonging to more than 30 complainants.
Christiana was arraigned before Magistrate O. Kasunu of the Ikeja Magisterial District on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and stealing.
The police prosecutor, SP Phillip Ademigbuji, told the court that the alleged offences were committed between November 2025 and May 2026 at No. 25/27, Old Ota Road, Agege, Lagos.
In the first count, the prosecution alleged that Christiana, with intent to defraud, obtained a total of N103,737,800 from more than 30 individuals and businesses.
The prosecution listed several transactions in the charge, including N10.5 million allegedly obtained from Amaka Uche on April 17, 2026; N9.5 million from Lubabatu Abubakar on February 17, 2026; N12 million from Chinelu Ndubisi; N9.9 million from Adeagbo Jumoke Ganiyat; N6.6 million from Mrs Abe Johnson Ayodeji; N6.5 million from Taiwo Morenikeji Raji and N6.4 million from Adeniji Susan.
Other alleged transactions ranged from N340,000 to N4.9 million.
The police alleged that the funds were collected through accounts bearing the names Togip Ventures and Oluwatoyin Christiana Adebayo.
The alleged offence of obtaining by false pretence was said to contravene Section 314 and be punishable under Section 314(3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
In the second count, the prosecution alleged that Christiana stole the N103,737,800, which it said belonged to the complainants listed in the first count.
The alleged stealing offence was said to contravene Section 286 and be punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Christiana pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following her plea, Ademigbuji asked the court to fix a date for hearing to enable the police present evidence in support of the allegations.
Magistrate Kasunu granted the defendant bail with two sureties, who must provide evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The court, however, ordered that Christiana be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri Town, pending the perfection of her bail conditions.
The case was adjourned for further proceedings.
Christiana remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of law.
