25-Year-Old Man Faces Court Over Alleged Army Impersonation

A 25-year-old man, Bala Jubril, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Lagos over alleged impersonation and unlawful possession of two fake Nigerian Army identity cards.
Jubril was arraigned before Magistrate L.A. Owolabi of the Lagos Magisterial District on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, impersonation, forgery and unlawful possession of Nigerian Army identity cards.
According to the charge sheet, Jubril and others now at large allegedly conspired to commit a felony on June 12, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.
The police prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, told the court that the alleged offences involved impersonation and the unlawful possession of two Nigerian Army identity cards.
In the first count, the prosecution alleged that Jubril and others now at large conspired to commit a felony involving impersonation and unlawful possession of two Nigerian Army identity cards.
The alleged offence was said to contravene and be punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In the second count, the prosecution alleged that Jubril and his alleged accomplices unlawfully possessed two fake Nigerian Army identity cards.
The offence was said to contravene and be punishable under Section 79(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In the third count, the police alleged that the defendant and others now at large forged Nigerian Army identity cards bearing Jubril’s name and photograph in order to present him as a member of the Nigerian Army.
The alleged offence was said to contravene Section 363 and be punishable under Section 365(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Jubril pleaded not guilty to all three counts.
Following his plea, Ihkayere asked the court to fix a date for hearing to enable the police to present evidence in support of the allegations.
Magistrate Owolabi granted the defendant bail with two sureties, who are required to provide evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The court ordered that Jubril be remanded at the Correctional Centre, Kirikiri Town, pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned for mention.
The charge was approved by the District Prosecutor’s Office, Ogba, while the Commissioner of Police is listed as the complainant. The case was filed by the Command Tactical Squad 1, State Headquarters, Ikeja.
Inspector Akekoromowei Emoemi is listed as the Investigating Police Officer, while SP Banti Adamu is the Officer in Charge of the squad.
Jubril remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court.
