NDLEA Disrupts UK Cannabis Trafficking Channels

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded successive interceptions of synthetic cannabis entering Nigeria through both international air cargo and domestic overland transport networks.
Two consignments of the substance, concealed within cargo shipments originating from the United Kingdom, were seized at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. In concurrent operations, agency personnel recovered two additional consignments of the same material, hidden inside music speakers, at separate motor parks within the city. A minimum of seven individuals have been taken into custody in connection with these seizures.
The details were confirmed in an official statement issued on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA. The agency characterised the recovered material as a dangerous synthetic variant of cannabis, highlighting the continued use of sophisticated concealment methods by traffickers seeking to exploit both air and road transport corridors.
These actions form part of the agency’s broader interdiction efforts directed at synthetic cannabinoids, which remain a priority category within Nigeria’s drug-control framework.
