The 2025/2026 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) season came to a successful close on Sunday as C2E Sports Academy defeated Obosa Queens 2-1 in the Nationwide final at Enyimba Stadium, Aba.
The result brought the curtain down on the League’s three-tier structure after the Premiership and Championship campaigns had already concluded. It also confirmed promotion for both finalists, who will now step up to the NWFL Championship next season.
The Nationwide tournament, staged from August 16 to 23, brought together 12 clubs at Enyimba Stadium and offered a competitive platform for emerging women’s players.
C2E took control early through Agnes Ohuche’s 11th-minute strike and Nina Ude’s second goal on the half-hour mark. Obosa Queens responded quickly after the break when Saidat Idowu pulled a goal back in the 47th minute, but the hosts held firm to lift the trophy.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi hailed the competition as another important step in the development of women’s football in Nigeria. She praised the participating clubs and stakeholders, and paid special tribute to the Abia State Government for its support in hosting the event.
“We are delighted with the success of the NWFL Nationwide 2026. The competition has shown that there is enormous talent across the country and that, with the right structure and opportunities, these young women can develop into the stars of tomorrow,” Shabi said.
“I would like to sincerely appreciate the Abia State Government and its Football Association for the tremendous support and hospitality extended to the NWFL, the participating clubs and everyone involved in the championship. Hosting a competition of this magnitude requires strong institutional support, and Abia State demonstrated that commitment.”
Shabi commended clubs, players, coaches, match officials, medical teams, volunteers, media organisations and partners for their roles across the Premiership, Championship and Nationwide competitions.
“It has been a long and demanding season, but together we have continued to strengthen the structure and pathway for women’s football in Nigeria,” she said.
