Nigerian street-hop singer Portable has paid a tongue-in-cheek tribute to music veteran 2Baba, highlighting the older artist’s role as a father to children from multiple relationships.

In a circulating video on social media yesterday, Portable referred to 2Baba as “the husband of single mothers” and declared, “I dey follow your footsteps; I just dey 2Baba dem dey go.” The remark was framed as playful recognition of 2Baba’s personal life and what Portable described as a contribution to population growth.

2Baba, is one of Nigeria’s most established Afrobeats pioneers. He has long been open about fathering children with different partners and remains a prominent figure in the industry more than two decades after rising to fame with hits such as “African Queen.”

Portable, known for his outspoken and often controversial public statements, has previously engaged with themes of single motherhood. In 2024 he was named “godfather” of the Omotosho Single Mothers Association, an event that also drew significant online attention.

The latest exchange has been received largely as light-hearted banter between the two artists. It arrives amid ongoing public discussions in Nigeria about family structures, parental responsibility and the personal lives of celebrities.

Observers note that such interactions between established and emerging musicians often underscore the informal mentorship and companionship that characterise parts of the Nigerian entertainment scene.
