LASU Begins Probe Into Allegations Of Unuploaded Results
By Sherif Salau
The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has initiated an investigation into claims that some lecturers failed to upload students’ results, a development linked to delayed graduations and the risk of extra academic years for affected undergraduates.
In a statement posted on its official X handle yesterday, the university acknowledged the allegations that emerged online following its recent convocation ceremonies. “The attention of the University Management has been drawn to this allegation, and the matter is currently being looked into,” the management said.
Reports circulating on social media claim that more than 100 students were unable to graduate because a lecturer had not uploaded their results since their 300-level studies. The affected students maintain that the delay stems from administrative failure rather than academic shortcomings. Other claims suggest that current 400-level students in the same department face similar challenges, with some stating that a Head of Department issued threats when the issue was raised.
Two lecturers have been mentioned in the online reports. The university has not found anyone culpable and has stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
Student leaders have also interfered. National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) President Akinteye Babatunde confirmed yesterday that the association and the Joint Campus Committee, Lagos Axis, have opened discussions with university management in a bid to resolve the matter.
Result-processing delays remain a recurring concern in Nigerian universities, often disrupting academic progression and imposing additional financial costs on students. LASU has yet to provide a timeline for the conclusion of its inquiry.
