“I don’t want my daddy to die.”

Those were the emotional words of Kira Taiwo, daughter of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, as she appealed for urgent medical help for her father, who she said is battling stage-four cancer.

Kira and her sister, Lima, made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals with experience in cancer treatment to help their father access further medical care.

In her video, Kira disclosed that the actor’s condition had reached stage four and claimed that his hospital had informed the family that it could no longer continue with his treatment.

“Hello everyone, I’m here for my daddy. He has cancer and is in stage 4. The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again, like they can’t give him chemo again,” she said.

She appealed to anyone capable of providing cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, to contact the family.

“What I’m here for is that if you can treat my daddy, if you can start chemo for him, whether it’s medical or herbs, please, I’m begging you guys, any help, anything, anybody that you know that can treat cancer, please,” she pleaded.

Kira stressed that the family was not asking for financial donations but was seeking medical intervention that could give the actor another chance.

She also acknowledged the assistance provided by Senator Yayi, whom she said had been helping the family and footing medical bills.

“Please, if you can treat my daddy, please send me a DM. I’ll be checking my phone. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die,” she said.

The emotional appeal continued as Kira disclosed that she had never seen her father in such pain.

“God, give me strength. I’m suffering so bad. There’s no money, but if you know anybody that can treat my daddy, please,” she said.

According to her, the actor had also expressed fear of dying.

“He’s saying that he doesn’t want to die. Please, I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” she added.

In a separate video, her sister Lima also appealed for medical assistance, saying the family only discovered the severity of their father’s condition about three weeks ago.

“Hello everybody, good evening. I’m here to ask for help from my daddy. He has cancer and it’s really, really bad,” Lima said.

She claimed that hospitals had refused to continue treating the actor and appealed to anyone with connections to medical professionals or facilities willing to take on his case.

“At least, please, give this man a chance,” she pleaded.

Lima also clarified that the family was not seeking money.

“We’re not here to ask for money. Nobody’s here to ask for money,” she said, urging medical professionals and cancer treatment centres to reach out if they could assist.

Hassan, 66, is one of the prominent figures in Yoruba cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades. He has featured in hundreds of films and remains a recognisable figure in Nigeria’s film industry.

As of the time of filing this report, the actor’s management and family had not issued a detailed official statement on his diagnosis, the specific type of cancer or the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
