EFCC Raids Lekki Apartment Complex, Detains More

A major operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has led to the arrest of more than 20 suspects during a raid on a short-let apartment complex in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle suspected financial crimes.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Monday, July 27, at Mariton Apartments located on Plot 30, QMB Road, Ikate, Lekki.

A senior EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed the raid and said it followed credible intelligence received by the commission.

According to the official, investigators stormed the apartment complex, searched several units and arrested multiple suspects whose identities are being withheld while investigations continue.

“The operation was intelligence-driven. Several suspects were arrested, and investigations are still ongoing. We are profiling those arrested and examining items recovered during the operation. More details will be released when appropriate,” the official said.

Sources familiar with the operation said EFCC operatives questioned occupants of several apartments and recovered materials believed to be useful to the investigation before taking the suspects into custody.

The anti-graft agency has not yet disclosed the identities of those arrested or the specific offences under investigation.

Some residents claimed that certain apartments within the complex had allegedly been used for internet-related fraud and other illegal activities. However, those claims remain unverified, and the EFCC has not officially linked any suspect, resident or apartment owner to criminal activity.

The operation has generated widespread attention within the Lekki community, with residents describing it as one of the most significant anti-graft raids carried out in the area in recent months.

Residents and business operators also noted that activity around the apartment complex has reduced since the raid, adding that the facility previously recorded high occupancy.

Investigators are currently analysing materials recovered during the operation and carrying out background checks on the suspects to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for prosecution.
