Hotel Staff Arrested, Sentenced Over Theft of Super Falcons Players’ Money in Morocco

A hotel staff member has reportedly been arrested and sentenced to six months in prison over the theft of money belonging to Nigeria’s Super Falcons players during the ongoing WAFCON tournament in Morocco.

The incident came to public attention after Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo alleged that $700 was stolen from her hotel room while the team was away for a training session.

Other players, including captain Rashidat Ajibade, Joy Omewa, and Osinachi Ohale, also reported missing funds of $200, £120, and $100 respectively.

Following investigations, the suspected hotel worker was apprehended, while the stolen money was reportedly recovered and returned to the players.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had earlier condemned the online racial abuse directed at Okoronkwo after she raised the allegation, as some Moroccan fans accused her of attempting to tarnish the country’s reputation.

The NFF commended the Moroccan authorities for their handling of the matter, stressing that the action taken showed commitment to protecting the reputation of the tournament and ensuring the safety of participating teams.
