Ikorodu Local Government adopts Ikorodu-Oga Fanti Carnival

…promises bigger cultural celebration

The Ikorodu-Oga Fanti Carnival is set for a major boost after the Ikorodu Local Government officially adopted the annual cultural celebration and pledged funding and institutional support for the event.

The decision, announced under the leadership of Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Abdullateef Adedayo Ladega, is expected to give the carnival a stronger platform as organisers work to position it as a major tourism and entertainment attraction in Ikorodu.

The local government reached the agreement following discussions between Chairman Ladega and the carnival’s initiator and coordinator, Comrade Pelumi Olalekan Rado.

Under the new arrangement, the council has pledged annual funding and institutional backing for the carnival, with the broader ambition of giving the event international appeal.

The chairman has also begun reaching out to some of Nigeria’s leading music artistes ahead of the 2026 edition. As part of those engagements, Ladega recently hosted popular Nigerian musician Slimcase, with discussions around the carnival forming part of the meeting.

For Ikorodu residents, the development could mean a carnival that is not only about entertainment but also about showcasing the community’s history, culture and identity to visitors from within and outside Nigeria.

The 2026 carnival is scheduled for November 14, with organisers promising a culturally rich experience for residents, visitors, participants and members of the Ikorodu diaspora.

The carnival’s coordinator expressed appreciation to the local government chairman on behalf of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS), the Central Organising Committee and the three participating quarters.

The leadership structure of the carnival has also been clarified.

Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, will serve as the Statutory Royal Host, while the Executive Chairman of IKODASS will serve as Host. Ladega, as chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, will serve as Chief Host.

Beyond the cultural display, organisers are also opening the event to corporate partnerships.

Companies, brands and commercial establishments are being invited to support any of the three participating quarters — Aga Parapo, Ijomu Parapo and Isele Alaro United.

The participating quarters will retain their distinctive colours, creating opportunities for sponsors to gain visibility through branding, publicity and on-ground activations.

With the backing of the local government and the involvement of traditional, community and corporate stakeholders, the Ikorodu-Oga Fanti Carnival is expected to bring together culture, entertainment, tourism and business as Ikorodu prepares for the November celebration.
