2027: Lagos Indigenes Forum Pledges Statewide Support for Hamzat’s Governorship Bid
The Lagos State Prominent Indigenes Forum has endorsed the governorship aspiration of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and his running mate, Damilola Sonayon-James, while unveiling plans for extensive grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during the Forum’s 2026 Socio-Political Summit held at Eko Club, Surulere, where indigenous stakeholders from the five IBILE divisions deliberated on the theme: “Expectations of Indigenous Lagosians in the Next Political Dispensation (2027–2031).”
Responding to the endorsement, Hamzat thanked the Forum for its confidence in his leadership and pledged to continue promoting inclusive governance through broad consultation with Lagos residents.
He said effective governance depends on the collective wisdom, experience and participation of the people.
“We cannot afford to fail, and we will not fail,” Hamzat said, describing Lagos as too important to the Black race for its leadership to fall short of expectations.
Earlier, the convener of the Forum, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, called on indigenous Lagosians to unite and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He described the summit as a shift from political endorsement to coordinated grassroots action, urging supporters to mobilise voters in their communities, markets, places of worship and polling units.
Onitiri stressed that elections are won through effective grassroots organisation rather than large political rallies.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and former Senator Gbenga Ashafa urged Lagosians to strengthen voter mobilisation, encourage the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and sustain progressive leadership in the state.
The summit ended with the Forum reaffirming its support for the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket and pledging to mobilise indigenous Lagosians across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
