Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann has plans to continue in his role to lead the Germany national team with no intention of resigning despite the team’s appalling Round of 32 elimination at the 2026 FIFA World Cup while he believes it rests on the shoulders of the German Football Association (DFB) to retain him for the job.

Speaking after Germany’s penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay, Nagelsmann addressed speculation about his future, emphasizing his desire to lead the team through the remainder of his contract, which runs until 2028.

“I’m not someone who runs away. I’m available if that’s what the German national team wants. If they want me to stay until 2028, I will,” Nagelsmann said.

“If they don’t want me, they need to tell me. I want to continue. In football, you don’t have complete control.”

The comments come amid pressure on the coach and the DFB after another underwhelming tournament performance for Die Mannschaft.

Germany, once a powerhouse in world football, has now suffered early exits in multiple recent major competitions, raising questions about the direction of the national team rebuild.

Nagelsmann, who took charge with high expectations following a promising Euro 2024 campaign on home soil, said that any decision on his position rests with the federation.
