Germany Deserved World Cup Elimination – Kimmich
By Saheed Afolabi
Germany skipper, Joshua Kimmich has delivered a scathing assessment of Germany’s performance following their embarrassing elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the four-time champions fell to Paraguay in the Round of 32.
The Bayern Munich midfielder was brutally honest in his post-match comments after Germany drew 1-1 with Paraguay before losing 4-3 on penalties. Paraguay’s Julio Enciso had given the South Americans the lead, with Kai Havertz equalizing for Die Mannschaft.
“It feels terrible. We struggled badly in ALL three matches against teams that aren’t even World class” Kimmich said.
“That’s a fact. We deserved to be eliminate. We didn’t play well against any of our opponents.”
Kimmich’s remarks references a tournament of underachievement for a German side that came with renewed optimism but failed to advance beyond the knockout stage for the third consecutive World Cup since their 2014 triumph.
Germany labored through the group stage, showing vulnerability against Ivory Coast and Ecuador before the decisive clash in Boston.
The result marks another painful chapter for German football, which has been searching for its former dominance.
Despite the presence of young talents like Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, the team struggled with creativity.
Paraguay, ranked around 41st in the world made their mark in the giant-killing moment, with goalkeeper Orlando Gill emerging as a hero in the shootout.
