Alimosho LG Sustains Refuse Clearance, Warns Environmental Offenders
Alimosho Local Government has intensified its environmental sanitation campaign with the continued evacuation of refuse dumps across communities and a renewed crackdown on indiscriminate waste disposal.
The exercise, being coordinated by the council’s Environment Department, is focused on clearing identified black spots where illegal dumping of waste has become common, as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
Speaking on the initiative, the Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, reiterated his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability and improved public health.
According to him, the success of the council’s development agenda depends largely on the collective responsibility of residents in maintaining a clean environment.
“When we came on board, I promised our people purposeful governance that would bring prosperity. However, we can only achieve this collectively if we see Alimosho as our common project,” he said.
The chairman also highlighted the recent launch of Project Iron Shield, describing it as a strategic initiative aimed at addressing environmental violations and strengthening sanitation efforts across the local government area.
“The primary objective of Project Iron Shield is to ensure a cleaner Alimosho. This can only be achieved when residents desist from indiscriminate refuse disposal,” he added.
Johnson assured residents that the council’s waste compactors and sanitation teams would continue to operate at full capacity to keep the environment clean, while the Environmental Task Force would sustain enforcement activities against violators.
He warned that individuals caught flouting environmental laws would be sanctioned in accordance with existing regulations.
The council further urged residents, traders and business owners to support the sanitation campaign by embracing proper waste disposal practices, stressing that the goal of achieving a cleaner Alimosho can only be realised through active community participation and shared responsibility.
