Osupa Breaks Silence on Malaika’s ‘Real Thug’ Remark, Says Era of Fuji Fights Is Over
Popular Nigerian Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa, has reacted to a recent claim by his colleague, Sulaimon Alao Malaika, that he was once a “real thug” during the heated rivalry that characterised the Fuji music industry in their younger days.
Malaika had made the remark during an interview with Oyinmomo TV, where he opened up about his long-standing rivalry with Osupa.
According to Malaika, the two Fuji stars engaged in several physical confrontations in the past, describing their rivalry as one of the fiercest in the industry.
While insisting that he was never a thug, Malaika said Osupa was known for his confrontational nature and was always ready to engage in physical fights.
He reportedly said, “King Saheed Osupa and I fought so much back in the day. I am not a thug, but Saheed used to be a real thug as he is always ready to fight; old age finally changed him.”
However, Osupa has chosen not to respond with a counterattack or reignite the rivalry.
Speaking during a recent performance, the Fuji star appeared unfazed by the comment, suggesting that some people may simply be eager to see him return to the controversial persona of his younger days.
Rather than engage Malaika in a war of words, Osupa reflected on how much their relationship and the Fuji industry had evolved over the years.
He described Malaika as a friend, stressing that despite their past clashes, the relationship between them is now cordial.
Osupa also spoke positively about his relationship with other leading Fuji musicians, including Abass Akande Obesere and Wasiu Alabi, popularly known as Pasuma.
The “Oba Orin” made it clear that he had moved beyond the era of physical confrontations and unnecessary controversies.
According to him, the days when Fuji musicians settled their differences through physical fights should remain in the past, particularly as maturity and experience have changed the way veteran artistes relate with one another.
For Osupa, the priority now is peace, mutual respect and maintaining healthy relationships within the Fuji music community.
His response has therefore turned what could have become another chapter in the long-running Fuji rivalry into a demonstration of maturity, signalling that the veteran singer has little interest in returning to the battles of his younger years.
