The Lagos State Government has announced updated compliance measures as it reintroduces its monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state.
This development is aimed at strengthening hygiene standards and improving waste management practices.

According to the new guidelines, the exercise will take place between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the last Saturday of every month, with the first session scheduled for April 25, 2026. Movement will be restricted during this period to ensure full participation and effective enforcement across communities.

Authorities confirmed that there will be a controlled movement order in place throughout the sanitation window, with residents expected to comply strictly with the restrictions. Environmental Sanitation Inspectors, officials from the Ministry of the Environment, and other relevant agencies will be deployed across the state to conduct physical inspections and monitor compliance.

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) will also mobilize intervention trucks to evacuate bagged waste generated during the exercise, ensuring swift clearance and proper disposal across neighborhoods.

To enforce the directive, environmental enforcement officers and security task forces will be stationed strategically to ensure adherence to the sanitation rules and maintain order during the exercise period.

In addition, the government announced a reward system to encourage community participation, with recognition set to be given to the cleanest Local Government Areas (LGAs), Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and streets in Lagos.

Officials say the renewed exercise is part of ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility, improve public health conditions, and sustain a cleaner and more livable Lagos.
