A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said that key figures who worked to bring former President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2015 are prepared to support the party in unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Momodu made the disclosure on Wednesday during an interview on the Arise News Morning Show, where he described the group as a “formidable political bloc” with the experience needed to challenge the ruling party.

He identified members of the bloc to include former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai; former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; and former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal—all of whom are now associated with the ADC.

According to Momodu, winning a presidential election requires more than popularity, stressing the need for strategic political alliances similar to those that led to Buhari’s victory in 2015.

Go back to the drawing board and look at how Buhari captured power in 2015. I was part of those who worked at that time, though I wasn’t a member of APC,” he said.

The media entrepreneur noted that President Tinubu remains a strong political force, warning that defeating him would require a well-coordinated effort and the right candidate.

He expressed support for Atiku Abubakar as his preferred candidate for the ADC presidential ticket, citing his experience and regional advantage.

Momodu also suggested that the ADC should focus its strategy on regions where there is growing dissatisfaction, particularly among political actors who previously supported Tinubu but now feel sidelined.

He claimed that some members of the 2015 coalition are currently disillusioned and could align with the ADC if properly engaged.

If you pick Atiku, he comes from the North-East, and the region will be eager to produce a president for the first time,” he added.

Momodu maintained that with the right strategy and coalition-building, the ADC stands a strong chance of mounting a serious challenge in the 2027 presidential race.
