IBLCDA Chairman Aroyewun Unveils Merit-Based Postgraduate Scholarship Programme to Honour Ikorodu Icons
In a landmark initiative aimed at promoting academic excellence and investing in the next generation of scholars, the Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has announced the establishment of a merit-based postgraduate scholarship programme to honour some of Ikorodu Division’s most distinguished personalities.
The newly introduced scholarship scheme is designed to provide outstanding graduates with opportunities to pursue higher education while celebrating the enduring legacies of eminent leaders whose contributions have played significant roles in the development of Ikorodu Division.
The scholarship programme will feature the Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe Master’s Scholarship in Engineering, the Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun Master’s Scholarship in Law, and the Hon. Babajimi Benson PhD Scholarship.
The awards are expected to encourage exceptional graduates to undertake advanced studies in critical fields, deepen their professional expertise, and contribute meaningfully to national development through research, innovation, and leadership.
Speaking on the initiative, Chairman Aroyewun emphasized that the scholarships would be awarded strictly on merit, maintaining that beneficiaries would emerge solely through academic excellence.
He stated that there would be no room for political patronage, favoritism, influence, or nominations in the selection process, assuring prospective applicants of a transparent and credible system.
According to the council chairman, the scholarship programme reflects his administration’s unwavering commitment to human capital development, noting that investment in education remains one of the most sustainable pathways to community growth and long-term prosperity.
Aroyewun explained that beyond providing financial support for postgraduate studies, the initiative seeks to inspire young people to strive for excellence while immortalising distinguished sons of Ikorodu whose lives and achievements continue to inspire generations.
The announcement has attracted widespread commendation from residents, education stakeholders, and community leaders, many of whom described the initiative as another visionary intervention by the Aroyewun administration.
They noted that the scholarship scheme would not only expand access to higher education but also encourage a culture of excellence, reward academic achievement, and preserve the legacies of outstanding Ikorodu leaders whose contributions have shaped the division’s development.
Stakeholders also expressed optimism that the initiative would motivate more young graduates to pursue postgraduate education, produce highly skilled professionals, and strengthen the community’s intellectual and leadership capacity.
