Lagos Govt Announces Partial Closure of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for Repairs
Kehinde Ad
The Lagos State Government has announced a partial road closure along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to allow the Federal Ministry of Works carry out rehabilitation on failed sections of the road.
The repair work will cover the stretch from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes. The project is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, and will run until Wednesday, March 11, 2026 — a total of four weeks.
To reduce traffic disruption, the rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases.
Phase One (Abeokuta-Bound Traffic)
The first phase, which runs from February 11 to March 4, 2026, will focus on the section from U-Turn Bus Stop inward to Sango Tollgate.
During this period, traffic heading from Lagos/Abule-Egba toward Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate will be diverted to one half of the carriageway, approximately 20 metres away from the active construction zone. Full access will resume after the work area.
Repairs will be carried out one lane at a time. Once work is completed on the first half, traffic will be redirected to the rehabilitated section while construction continues on the remaining half.
Motorists travelling on the Lagos-bound carriageway during this phase are expected to experience free-flowing traffic.
Phase Two (Lagos-Bound Traffic)
The second phase will take place from March 4 to March 11, 2026, covering the stretch from Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction.
Traffic from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate heading toward Lagos/Abule-Egba will be diverted to one side of the road, about 20 metres from the work zone, with normal traffic flow restored after the construction area.
As in Phase One, repairs will be carried out in halves, with traffic redirected to completed sections as work progresses. Motorists travelling toward Abeokuta are expected to maintain uninterrupted movement during this period.
The state government assured residents that adequate traffic management measures will be implemented throughout the duration of the project.
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance, obey traffic signs and cooperate with traffic officials on duty.
The Ministry appealed for patience and understanding, noting that the repairs are essential for the safety and convenience of all road users.
