A new wave of political mobilization is gathering momentum beyond Nigeria’s borders as young Nigerians in the diaspora signal their readiness to shape the nation’s future.

At a well-attended Youth Town Hall Meeting held in Accra, Ghana, the West Africa Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Wing unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event, themed “Back Home, Still Involved,” brought together APC youth leaders, government officials, stakeholders, cultural figures, and Nigerian youths residing across several West African countries. The gathering underscored a shared conviction that distance from home does not equate to political disengagement.

Participants described the meeting as both strategic and timely, coming at a period when conversations around youth inclusion, governance, and national development are intensifying. Beyond the endorsement, the forum served as a platform for dialogue on structured diaspora participation, youth mobilization, and strengthening party structures across the sub-region.

The APC Youth Wing West Africa announced that it is already operational in Togo, Benin Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire, with plans underway to establish additional secretariats in Lagos, Accra, and Benin Republic to enhance coordination and outreach.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, emphasized the importance of inclusive political platforms. He described diaspora youth as a vital constituency whose engagement strengthens democratic processes and reinforces national development efforts beyond Nigeria’s shores.

Also addressing the gathering, Hon. (Dr.) Muritala Ishola Seriki, APC Youth Leader in Lagos State, called for a transition from political awareness to active participation, urging young people to embrace mobilization, discipline, and consistency as pillars of democratic consolidation.

Hon. Adewale Bolowotan, Coordinator of the APC Youth Wing West Africa, noted that the Accra meeting demonstrates that Nigerian youths abroad remain deeply connected to home politics. He described the town hall as a deliberate step toward building a sustainable diaspora network capable of influencing national discourse.

The event also drew notable personalities, including veteran Nollywood actor Saheed Balogun, actor and youth mobilizer Lege Miami, and APC stakeholder Alhaji Fowosere, who collectively encouraged young Nigerians to remain informed, purposeful, and engaged in nation-building.

Central to the gathering was the unanimous endorsement of President Tinubu’s second-term bid. Youth leaders cited ongoing reforms and youth-focused interventions under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda as reasons for their support, pledging to mobilize Nigerian youths across West Africa in backing the President’s vision.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Gideon Olatunde Igbasan, Director-General of the APC Youth Wing West Africa, described the Accra Town Hall as a defining moment for diaspora political engagement. He referenced initiatives such as NELFUND, the 3 Million Technical Talent Programme, TVET expansion, SUPA, CREDITCORP, and housing support under MREIF as evidence of youth-centered governance, urging participants to safeguard these gains through voter registration, mobilization, and sustained political involvement ahead of 2027.

Organizers disclosed that similar town hall meetings will be replicated across other West African countries, signaling what they described as the beginning of a more structured and coordinated diaspora political movement.

The Accra convergence, observers note, marks a significant step in redefining how Nigerian youths abroad participate in shaping the country’s political trajectory.
