Nigeria’s Dangote Group has signed a $350 million contract with Indian engineering giant Engineers India Limited (EIL) to drive the next phase of expansion at the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Lagos.
Under the agreement, EIL will serve as Project Management Consultant (PMC) and EPCM consultant, mirroring its role in the refinery’s initial construction while overseeing efforts to nearly double crude-processing capacity.
The ambitious Train 2 expansion will boost output from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, producing Euro VI-compliant fuels that meet international environmental standards.
The deal also targets petrochemical growth, with polypropylene production set to jump from 830 kTPA to 2.4 MMTPA through upgrades and new installations, cementing the complex’s status as a continental powerhouse.
Once complete, Dangote’s facility could become the world’s largest single-site refinery, significantly cutting Africa’s reliance on imported refined products and reinforcing Nigeria’s drive to become a regional energy and petrochemical hub.
The partnership underscores growing industrial collaboration between Nigeria and India, building on decades of shared expertise in engineering, construction, and infrastructure development.
The expansion is expected to transform Africa’s energy landscape, delivering higher output, boosting industrial growth, and strengthening regional energy security.
