Veteran Nigerian musician Seyi Sodimu has shared his views on the differing influence of Afrobeats superstars Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, describing each of them as powerful in very different ways.
Speaking on a recent episode of the What I Know podcast, hosted by Korty EO and featuring actress Shaffy Bello, the Love Me Jeje crooner said the so-called Afrobeats Big 3 wield distinct forms of influence that extend beyond music alone.
According to Sodimu, Wizkid possesses a unique and almost intangible influence, Burna Boy’s impact is rooted firmly in musical excellence and stage dominance, while Davido’s reach cuts across entertainment and public life.
He went as far as suggesting that Davido could win a political election if he chose to run, arguing that his influence resonates deeply with the wider public.
“The [Afrobeats] Big 3, each one is doing it for different reasons,” Sodimu said. “Burna Boy has conquered the stage, and he is very good. Wizkid is special. And Davido surpasses music.
“If Davido ran for governor today, he would win. But I don’t think Burna Boy could win as a governor,” he added, pointing to the different nature of their public appeal.
Sodimu’s comments have reignited long-standing conversations around celebrity influence and political relevance in Nigeria. This is not the first time Davido has been linked to political leadership.
Last year, former Nigerian senator Ben Murray-Bruce publicly predicted that the singer would one day become the governor of Osun State.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, hails from a prominent political family. His uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, currently serves as the governor of Osun State.
