As part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday led a high-powered delegation on a pre-conference wellness walk held in Ikorodu, Lagos East Senatorial District.
The event, which drew over 470 women from across the state, was hosted by Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, wife of Senator Tokunbo Abiru, the lawmaker representing Lagos East in the National Assembly. Also in attendance were the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, and other distinguished members of COWLSO.
The colourful walk, themed around promoting wellness, unity, and women’s leadership, reinforced COWLSO’s long-standing mission to empower women and strengthen family and community values across Lagos State.
After the walk, the First Lady and her entourage paid a courtesy visit to the SAIL Innovation Lab — an initiative of the SAIL Empowerment Foundation, founded by Senator Abiru. The lab provides free training in technology, digital skills, and innovation for youths across Lagos East.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu commended the transformative impact of the SAIL Innovation Lab, describing it as a model for youth empowerment and a testament to effective public-private partnership in education and innovation.
Senator Abiru expressed gratitude for the visit and for the First Lady’s continuous advocacy for women’s development and youth empowerment. He also lauded his wife’s leadership in supporting the cause of women and promoting inclusivity within the community.
“We were deeply honoured by Her Excellency’s visit and kind words of encouragement,” Abiru said. “The collaboration and sisterhood shown through COWLSO continue to inspire initiatives that strengthen families, empower women, and prepare young people for the future.”
The 25th anniversary of COWLSO is expected to feature a series of events across the state celebrating women’s leadership, community service, and the organisation’s enduring legacy of impact since its establishment.
