No fewer than 500 farmers across Ikorodu Federal Constituency have received 50kg bags of fertiliser through a Federal Government agricultural intervention facilitated by the member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.

The fertiliser distribution, held on Saturday, benefited farmers drawn from the six Local Government and Local Council Development Areas that make up the constituency as part of ongoing efforts to boost food production, support local farmers and strengthen agricultural productivity.

The intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s agricultural support programme under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is being implemented through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF).

The initiative is aimed at providing smallholder farmers with essential farm inputs to improve crop yields, reduce the cost of cultivation, strengthen food security and promote sustainable agricultural development across the country.

Representing Rep. Benson at the event, the Director-General of Jimi Benson’s iCare Foundation and Executive Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mayor Deen Sanwoola, said the lawmaker remains committed to ensuring that Federal Government intervention programmes directly benefit residents of Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

He described agriculture as a critical driver of economic growth, stressing that supporting farmers with essential inputs would not only improve food production but also enhance rural livelihoods and stimulate local economic development.

“This fertiliser distribution is more than an empowerment programme; it is an investment in our farmers, our food security and our collective future,” Sanwoola said.

“Rep. Babajimi Benson believes that when farmers are supported, families are fed, businesses grow and communities prosper. That is why he remains committed to bringing the dividends of the Renewed Hope Agenda directly to the grassroots.”

He urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the fertilisers to maximise productivity during the current farming season, expressing confidence that the intervention would lead to increased harvests and improved household incomes.

Several beneficiaries described the initiative as timely, noting that the rising cost of fertiliser and other farm inputs has made agricultural production increasingly difficult.

One of the farmers thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rep. Benson for ensuring that farmers in Ikorodu benefited from the programme.

“We are sincerely grateful to President Tinubu for this thoughtful intervention and to Rep. Babajimi Benson for ensuring that farmers in Ikorodu were not left out. Fertiliser has become very expensive, so this support will go a long way in helping us improve our harvest,” the beneficiary said.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Vivian Adewole, commended the federal lawmaker for what she described as his consistent responsiveness to the needs of his constituents.

“He understands what the people need at every point in time. Whether it is education, healthcare, food support, youth empowerment or agriculture, Rep. Benson always finds a way to connect the people with opportunities. This is why many of us continue to appreciate the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda through initiatives like this,” she said.

Beneficiaries also praised the transparent and orderly distribution process, noting that genuine farmers from different communities across the constituency benefited from the programme.

The fertiliser distribution is the latest in a series of agricultural and economic empowerment initiatives facilitated by Rep. Benson, reinforcing ongoing efforts to improve rural livelihoods, promote food security and ensure that Federal Government interventions reach communities across Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
