2026 World Cup Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Benin Preview

Nigeria are set to host Benin at the Godwills Akpabio Stadium on the 14th of October, 2025 in what happens to be a showdown and a potential route to secure a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With their hopes for qualifying for the World Cup hanging by a thread, each team will have to strive to win. Benin has the advantage as they are currently leading Group C with 17 points after nine matches, giving them a chance to qualify even with a draw. For Nigeria to claim automatic qualifications, not only do they need a victory, but also hopes Rwandan defeats South Africa too.
Past records between both sides showed they have played 17 matches, with Nigeria having the highest win ratio of 14, Benin has had just two wins, and three games ended in stalemates.
Africa Footballer Of The Year (AFOTY), Ademola Lookman will be left out of the match due to accumulation of yellow cards leading to suspension and Ola Aina, a defender will also be unavailable as he sustained a hamstring injury.
However Super Eagles talisman, Victor Osimhen is expected to lead Nigeria’s attack, while Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon provides support dazzling support from the wings.
For Benin, Steve Mounie will remain a primary threat up front, while their defence will work hard to stay impenetrable.
A convincing three goal margin win against Benin while the Bafana Bafana loses to Rwanda will seal Nigeria’s ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in USA, Mexico and Mexico.
