The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Benson Sunday Ayodele, has commenced the clearing and desilting of the Igbokuta Bridge, a strategic intervention aimed at improving drainage flow and preventing flooding within the community.
The operation, which began over the weekend, underscores the council’s commitment to proactive environmental management and infrastructural maintenance part of a broader agenda to promote a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Imota.
Hon. Benson said the project is a crucial step toward addressing one of the root causes of flooding in the area, ensuring that water channels remain free-flowing, especially during the rainy season.
“We are investing in the future well-being of our people.
“Clearing the Igbokuta Bridge is not just about today it’s about protecting lives, property, and ensuring environmental balance for years to come.”
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to sustain ongoing efforts in flood prevention, sanitation improvement, and environmental protection, noting that the council will continue to implement strategic measures to safeguard residents.
“This initiative reflects our collective responsibility. We must all take ownership of our environment,” he added.
“Together, we can create lasting solutions that promote health, safety, and sustainable growth.”
According to the council’s Media and Publicity Engagement Office, the Igbokuta Bridge clearing is one of several environmental improvement projects planned under the Ijoba Itesiwaju Imota LCDA vision, designed to deliver tangible infrastructural progress and improved quality of life for residents.
The initiative also aligns with Lagos State’s broader environmental sustainability agenda, promoting community-driven stewardship and resilience against climate-induced challenges.
