Lagos’s 31 Newly Named Streets – Did Yours Make the List?
Kehinde Adeleye
The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area have recently renamed no fewer than eight and 24 streets in their respective jurisdictions.
According to the former Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, the renaming exercise was intended to honor individuals who have positively represented the community and contributed significantly to national development.
However, the street renaming carried out by the Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA has sparked controversy, with some residents raising concerns about ethnic exclusion. They expressed disappointment over the replacement of street names originally honoring individuals of Igbo heritage with names of Yoruba figures.
