LAWMA Backs Jakande’s Sanitation Drive

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has thrown its full support behind the Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande, in his renewed campaign to restore environmental cleanliness across the council area.
Within 24 hours of the council launching its intensified cleanup exercise, LAWMA, on Tuesday, August 11, mobilised personnel and equipment to clear heaps of refuse and debris from major routes. These included Agege Motor Road, Ikorodu Road, Obanikoro, Empire Road and Anikulapo.
The swift response underscores the strong partnership between the LCDA and state environmental agencies in delivering a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for residents, traders and motorists.
The operation has now moved into its second phase at Vono, with continued focus on sustained waste removal and efforts to curb indiscriminate dumping. A parallel sensitisation campaign was also carried out to educate residents on proper waste disposal and the importance of community ownership of sanitation.
Manpower has been deployed to monitor compliance and discourage illegal dumping. Mop-up operations are ongoing across several streets, including Alhaji Lasisi, Smith, Buraimoh, Aileru, Amodu, Oyegunle, Ojo, Anuoluwapo, Imoru, Awoyejo, Adegbite, Ogundanya, Ijaye, Opeloyeru, Akala, Alhaji Street, Ashaoku, Adedoja, inner streets and Ogunmokun Road.
The Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye Environmental Taskforce Committee, managed by the Odi-Olowo Transport and Environmental Corps (OTEC) and working closely with LAWMA officials, maintained order and enforced compliance throughout the exercise.
The council has urged residents and business owners to support the drive by disposing of waste responsibly and avoiding dumping on roads and drainage channels.
