Orile-Agege LCDA Chairman Inspects Idera Market After Corpse Discovery, Pledges Comprehensive Reforms

The Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon. Akintola Abiodun Idowu (Dodo) personally inspected Idera Market at New Garage following the discovery of a corpse within the market earlier in the week.

Accompanied by his Deputy, Hon. Wale Fayemi, legislative leaders, supervisory councillors, heads of departments and community stakeholders, the Chairman thoroughly assessed conditions across the market. He expressed deep concern over the poor state of sanitation, the presence of homeless persons using the market as overnight shelter, and the security risks posed by street hoodlums.

The Iyaloja of the market, Mrs. Omobolanle Adebowale, joined the inspection and denied any knowledge of the incident. She claimed she had been arrested and detained on the Chairman’s directive—an allegation that was firmly rejected by both Hon. Idowu and the Divisional Police Officer of Abattoir Division. The DPO confirmed that the Iyaloja was only invited to assist with the ongoing investigation into the corpse discovered in the market.

During the visit, traders present raised concerns about several unofficial levies allegedly being imposed by the market leadership. Mrs. Adebowale denied collecting any funds for personal benefit.

Hon. Idowu strongly condemned the tragic incident and recalled that a similar case of rape and murder had occurred in the same market the previous year. He clarified that the Orile-Agege LCDA does not collect the disputed levies and pledged a thorough review of the market’s operations. The Chairman assured stakeholders that comprehensive reforms would be introduced to strengthen security, improve sanitation, ensure transparency and enhance the overall administration of Idera Market.
