Team Lagos Women’s Football Coach, Olayinka Olowu is delighted with her side’s first win of the 2024 Gateway Games at the Babcock University Sport Complex.

The Lagos women’s football team started strong, defeating Enugu 2-1 in their opening match at the Babcock University stadium.

Goals from Adegbuyi Kemi and Nkwocha Favor secured the maximum three points for Team Lagos.

Kemi opened the scoring early for Lagos, pushing Enugu to their limits before Enugu managed to level the game.

However, Favor’s remarkable effort in front of goal sealed the winning goal for the energetic Lagos side.

Olowu commended the players for their resilience and determination to push for a win as she hopes the team’s lapses will be corrected before the next game against the Nigeria U17 women’s team who ranks among the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA) on Thursday, May 22.

“They really tried their best, we thank God. The only thing is that there are some lapses on the pitch and we will correct that in our next game.

“I want the team to upgrade their game in our next match. So that we can get a win to boost our chances of going through to the next round.”
