The UK Foreign Secretary also stressed the importance of mutual growth, underscoring the UK’s openness to doing business with Nigeria. He believes this partnership will yield benefits for both nations, particularly in addressing climate change through renewable energy.

Accompanying Lammy on his visit were Dr. Richard Montgomery, British High Commissioner, and his deputy, Jonny Baxter. In response to Lammy’s visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the UK’s economic approach, aligning with Nigeria’s growth plans. He highlighted Lagos’s talented youth and various training initiatives to develop their skills, positioning the city as a hub for human development capital ¹.

Sanwo-Olu also emphasized the potential for waste-to-energy conversion, encouraging investors to capitalize on this opportunity. He assured Lammy and his delegation that Lagos is committed to creating a business-friendly environment, inviting them to return home with confidence in the city’s investment potential.

This visit marks a significant step in fostering stronger UK-Nigeria relations, with a focus on trade, climate action, and mutual growth. As Lammy stated, “Growth is the core mission of this government and will underpin our relationships in Nigeria, South Africa, and beyond.”
