The Ipakodo community on Friday officially unveiled the Ankara fabric for the 2026 edition of Ipakodo Day, with traditional rulers, community leaders, stakeholders and residents gathering to herald the forthcoming cultural celebration.

The colourful unveiling ceremony highlighted the importance of the annual event as a platform for preserving Ipakodo’s cultural heritage, promoting unity and strengthening community development.

The Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom, HRM Oba Bashir Shotonwa, expressed appreciation to guests and supporters for their presence and continued commitment to the growth of the community.

The monarch described the Ankara celebration as more than a cultural festival, noting that it serves as a unifying platform that strengthens the bond among residents and promotes the identity and heritage of the Ipakodo people.

He urged members of the community, both at home and in the diaspora, to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity and sustainable development.

The Chairman of the organising committee, Jamiu Olarewaju, said preparations for Ankara 2026 were already in top gear, expressing confidence that the forthcoming edition would surpass previous celebrations in organisation and participation.

Olarewaju appealed to governments at all levels, corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals to support the festival, stressing that its objectives extend beyond entertainment to include cultural preservation, community development and the promotion of Ipakodo’s heritage.

According to him, the success of the event depends on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, adding that Ankara 2026 presents another opportunity to showcase the community’s cultural richness and strengthen unity among its people.

A prominent stakeholder, Omoba Peju Akinyemi, noted that the Ankara festival had continued to grow in popularity and impact with each edition.

He attributed the steady improvement recorded over the years to the commitment of the organisers and the unwavering support of residents, expressing optimism that the 2026 celebration would mark another significant milestone in the history of the community.

The unveiling ceremony featured cultural presentations and an exhibition of colourful Ankara fabrics, setting the stage for what organisers described as a bigger and more memorable Ipakodo Day celebration in 2026.
