Stop Bullying Petrol Tanker Drivers, Court Warns Police Officers

The Federal High Court in Lagos has warned the police to stop bullying members of the Petroleum Tankers Association, PTDA, Ejigbo Branch.
Justice Akintayo Aluko told the police, following the protest by the tanker drivers that the police were infringing on their fundamental rights.
Justice Aluko, on Thursday, after thorough examining of an ex-parte application filed by the association by their counsel, Olumide Oyewole, ordered the police to desist from further acts that pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or pending further order from the court.
The applicants, who include: Ganiyu Oyebola, Adebola Alani Akala, Basiru Adebayo Akangbe, Jimoh Abdulrahman Danlori, Wasiu Ankelo, Bolaji Babalola among others, had sued the Inspector General of police, Deputy Inspector General of police (FCID), the Assistant Inspector-General of police Zone 2, CP Emmanuel Ade-Aina, the Nigerians Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers ( NUPENG), Saheed Adigun Omogbolahan, Augustine Egbon, Williams Akporeha and Olawale Afolabi, who were listed as respondents in the suit marked FHC/L/CS/2661/2023
The plaintiffs also prayed that the court gives an order against the police, agents, servants and privies from taking any further steps or actions on matters pertaining to and or relating to the leadership disputes and or succession into political offices relating to the association pending the hearing and determination of the Originating Summons in these proceedings.
Justice Aluko, after listening to applicants’ counsel, in his ruling ordered that the defendant maintain status quo, desisting from all action on the matter until the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
