2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria Opponent, South Africa Line Up Friendly Matches

The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) have line up four international friendly matches for their national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria.

SAFA has concluded to play Namibia on September nine, DR Congo on September 12 and Eswatini on October 13 2023.

Bafana Bafana will square up against Ivory Coast (AFCON 2024 host nation) for their fourth friendly game on October 17.

CEO SAFA, Lydia Monyepao disclosed, the essence of the friendly games is to prepare the Bayana Bayana for the 2024 AFCON and the 2026 from FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“These matches are in support of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos as he continues his preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations in the beginning of next year, and the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November this year,” Monyepao was quoted by Sport Gister.

The South Africa national team are grouped in group C of the World Cup qualifiers that included Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Benin, Rwanda and Lesotho.

Bafana Bafana have failed to make it out of the group stage in two occasions in 2002 and 2010 when they hosted the tournament.
