The second wave of COVID-19 has potency to kill more people within the shortest possible time.

This was the declaration of the Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA during his engagement with Community Development Associations (CDAs) on Thursday 21st January 2021 at the council secretariat.
The council boss in company of the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon Kolawole Olojede engaged members of the CDAs on the fatal nature of the second wave of COVID-19 which has accounted for so many deaths in recent time.
The meeting, according to the council boss is a direct fallout from an earlier meeting between council chairmen and Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu is aimed at sensitizing the various grassroot communities of Lagos State on the current realities of the deadly pandemic.
According to Hon Olaleye, progress recorded in curtailing the spread of the virus a few months back has since given way to fear and despondency with the onslaught of the second wave with the death of more people as the virus keeps spreading across communities like wildfire.
While speaking on the fatal nature of the new COVID-19, the council boss told a bewildered audience that quite unlike before 20% of test conducted in Lagos have posted positive results which clearly shows that COVID-19 is still very much with us.
“This meeting is purposely organised to draw attention to the prevalence of the second wave of COVID-19. Unlike before, this new COVID is
more deadly and it kills faster. It is spreading widely without showing symptoms. More than before, it is becoming more expensive for government because of the high cost of ventilators.
“My advice to people is to continue to observe the safety protocols as announced by government by practising social distancing, wearing of nose mask, watching of hands with sanitizers and proper hygiene,” the council boss intoned.
He therefore enjoined members of the CDAs to spread the message on the current reality of the deadly virus among their communities even as he advised people to go for test whenever they feel unwell, adding that early detention of the virus would help save lives.
As a precautionary measure, the council chairman informed the gathering that steaming, a therapy made up of hot water laced with garlic or lemon has been found to be potent in fighting off COVID-19 as it is being done in China, where the deadly virus first berthed.
Aside this, Hon Olaleye revealed that the council is planning a number of sensitization and advocacy programmes to draw more attention to the need to keep safe in our various communities. This include printing of banners, radio jingles and advocacies on the need to practice social distancing and wearing of nose masks.
He also denounced the preponderance of people organising parties and other social gatherings at these trying periods. He noted that such parties have become hotbeds for the spread of the virus.
Against the wish of majority of the gathering for the council to enforce compliance for social distancing and wearing of nose mask, the council boss said as much as it has become compelling for enforcement for the safety of the general public, he intoned both the federal and state governments must provide the leeway first before local government can follow suite.
