This year’s celebration of Oke-Ogbere Day has been put on hold.

Disclosing the news to Echonews, The Baale of Oke-Ogbere Community, Okota, High Chief Tajudeen Amoo Orilowo gave the insecurity that followed the EndSARS violence and worsening economic situation as reasons for the decision.

The maiden edition,  held late last year was capped with the grand commissioning of the newly constructed Oke-Ogbere link Bridge.

He explained that the community could not guarantee the security of the prospective guests due to the security situation of the community and the whole nation, adding that the community could not be celebrating while other Nigerians are battling  with insecurity in the northeastern part of the country and other areas.

In the circumstances, it has been postponed to next year.

“It should be next year. We want to give gap to the celebration and give consideration to many social and economic factors. Moreover, we have to consider the convenience of our invitees because this year has been so challenging due to the pandemic, #EndSARS protest and the issue of insecurity in some parts of the country. Maybe by next year or upper we will have the celebration,” he said.
