COVID-19: CDC, CDAs eager to resume meetings
By Edith Igbokwe
Community Development Committee (CDC) and Community Development Associations (CDAs) have expressed eagerness to re-convene their normal meetings as soon as the government gives the clearance.
As part of efforts to prevent spread of COVID-19 at the community level, the government has banned all gatherings of more than 20 people which affected many associations including the CDC and CDAs.
Since its inauguration early this year, the CDC, Oshodi-Isolo LG, has not got the opportunity to convey a meeting for its newly elected executive members to deliberate on how to improve the leadership of the community.
Meanwhile, the associations are worried as the cases of COVID -19 keep increasing on daily basis, elongating the chances of resumption of their meetings which, according to them, has been affecting their duties to their various communities.
Speaking with ECHONEWS, the CDC Chairman, Alhaji Adisa Olawoyin, complained that the normal meetings of the committee and the CDAs have not taken place due to the prevalent coronavirus pandemic in the society.
He said though they have strategised on the way to bridge the information gap as the CDC deployed the system of having one or two executive members of each CDA updated with information to be passed across to the people in their various communities.
His words: “We call one or two executive members of each CDA to deliberate on crucial matters arising such as electricity, security and others concerning the community so as not to be lagging behind as we are expected to carry the people along with viable information.”
He stated that at times, the committee used the social media such as WhatsApp, text messages and calls to address crucial matters with few executive members to reach logical conclusion.
