Police arrest man for naming dog after his divorced female neighbour

The Police at Igando Division have made an arrest of a man who bought a dog and named it Nancy to taunt his fellow neighbour who also bears the name.

Police report has it that the man, Okwudiri Okechukwu, also assaulted the lady after going against the act at Majaoba Street, Igando where they both reside

The victim, Nancy Chikere, was said to have had a clash with her husband which resulted to a crash in her marriage.

She relocated to the same residence with the suspect.

Neighbours reported that Okechukwu has been making attempts to have an affair with Nancy but his attempts have proved futile.

He however reacted to her refusal by buying a dog naming it ‘Nancy’ in an attempt to ridicule her.

Based on reports, he was said to always call the dog’s name with other derogatory names, abusing it; calling the dog all sort of names in reference to the woman. Nancy could not bear it any longer, she confronted Okechukwu to change the dog’s name but he refused. This led to a fight; where she was seriously beaten up and injured by Okechukwu.

The matter was reported to the police at Igando Division, Lagos; Okechukwu was arrested and persecuted.

He was later charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for assault.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, did not oppose his bail but asked the court for adjournment for trial.

The defendant, Okechukwu, was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. He was remanded in prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 22nd October, 2018 for trial.
