2021 Community Day: Sanwo-Olu gifts bus awards to exceptional CDAs

No fewer than four Community Development Association (CDAs) were blessed with brand new buses by the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the exceptional performances in their various communities while some others bagged consolidated cash prizes during the 2021 Community Day held at Police College, Ikeja Lagos in Tuesday.

The Governor pledged more commitment to the development of community with myriad of infrastructures.

He said his administration would continue to consolidate on the ongoing developments in various communities, vowing that everything possible would be done to ensure security of lives and property in the state.

Sanwo-Olu stated this at the Grand Finale of the 2021 Community Day Celebration organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs.

The Governor also thanked the Community Development Associations (CDAs), which had over the time increased to 4,100, assuring that developmental projects were ongoing in all the 377 wards across the state.

The theme for this year’s celebration, ‘’Consolidating ongoing Developments in our Communities.”

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborate with communities on provision of infrastructure, security to ensure the safety of lives property especially during the yuletide seasons.

Sanwo-Olu listed some of the developmental projects embarked on by his administration to include roads, provision of healthcare facilities, nearly completed Imota Rice Mill, among others, adding that the dividends of democracy would also be ensured in various communities across the state.

This year’s Grand Finale of the Year 2021 Community Day Celebration was rounded off with bus awards for the CDAs for their respective developmental projects ranging from electrification, grading of roads, among others.

For the Rural Category, first position went to Oke-Edan CDA from Olorunda LCDA while second position went to Oluwanisola CDA in Eredo LCDA.

For the Urban Category, Harmony CDA in Agbado-Okeodo LCDA got the first position and Elepe Royal Estate from Ikorodu Central got the second position.

Chairman of Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr Wale Ahmed, in his welcome address, said the programme was in line with the United Nations’ initiatives, pointing out that the state government on a yearly basis usually set aside a day as Community Day to recognize the developmental contribution of various Community Development Association (CDA) in the areas of self-help project and overall contributions in the state.

“The support from the state government will help to complement their efforts as partners in progress with this Community Day Celebration, with donation of brand new busses as star prizes and cash to deserving CDAs in the efforts to gear up others to do same,” he said.

Chairman, Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council, Alhaji Azeez Amusa, urged the CDCs and CDAs to put in more collective efforts from this yuletide to promote more attention for adequate security and safety of their various communities.

“With the wave of insecurity across the country, it is imperative to rise up to the security needs and challenges that may face our communities in the forthcoming year as leaders in the communities,” he said.
